Yeah it's a pain in the ass the premise was previously "bullied" then they got together but hey, what's wrong with giving people second chances? His only fault is that he cared about what people think (kids back in high school worry about these trivial things) and he didn't speak up to help Itonaga when the rest of the class 'followed' his example. He didn't outright bully him, just threw water on him in a panic. (If you check out the flashback, he was watching while the others were harassing him, this is still a terrible thing to do but kids like him are cowards, even if they want to step up, it's tough to find the courage to do so).
The fact that this "bully" is treating the guy properly now and doesn't back down even when a jealous girl calls him a "homo" is good enough for me. I think I might be a sucker for bullies turning over a new leaf after Koi no Katachi tbh. Am I saying Sanada is innocent? Hell to the fucking no, but he deserves another chance.
