There are so many Asian series where the mom or dad just leaves one day,. They leave because they can’t stand their abusive spouse. But none of them take the child with them.
Sometimes in the series you’ll see how they started a new family. Sometimes the abandoned child will approach them, and that child will be ignored because the parent doesn’t want their new family to know.
All I can think, when I see these situations is, how can these parents look at their new children and not feel absolute shame? If I were them, I would feel such self-loathing every time I saw that new child’s face. I would look at that new child and imagine the child I left behind. How can any parent see themselves as human, when the happiness they have is built on the sacrifice of their own child, that they abandoned to a violent person?
I‘m aware that not all parents are good. I, myself, was taken into protective custody, by the government, on my first birthday, because my biological parents were child abusers. People like that exist, and in numbers that are terrifying.
Seeing this kind of situation in stories feels so strange to me. Unlike in Asia, in the United States child abandonment is a crime. You can’t just leave your child with an abuser. If you do, you will be charged with criminal child neglect. It is considered a form of child abuse.
Criminal child neglect is anytime a child faces bodily harm as a result of a parent neglecting their child. It’s not limited to child abandonment. But it includes child abandonment, because willingly allowing a child to be the victim of violence is wrong.
While I’m glad that America outlaws that kind of behavior, America still has a lot of problems and child abuse. 80 to 90% of children in US foster care are there because they were removed from their parents, for their safety. According to official reports (by the U.S. government), in 2024, there was around 329,000 children in US foster care. The government reports that criminal neglect accounted for removal in 55% of those cases. Physical abuse was cited in about 13% of removals, and sexual abuse in about 4%. Other reasons for child removal in that year include substance abuse by the parents, emotional abuse, housing issues, and parent incapacity.
Not all removal is due to the parents’ fault. Some cases are the result of poverty, or the parent being mentally ill, or the parent being physically incapable of raising their child (such as illness or injury) But when you look at the actual breakdown of why children end up in US foster care, the amount of child abuse going on is disgusting.
If the number of children taken into US faster care for abuse is 80-90% of the total, that would be 263,200 - 296,100 children. Then let’s do speculative math: how many adults living in the United States were child abusers for that number of kids to be abused?
Now, do you wanna know something even more disturbing? Less than 5% of the parents who lose custody of their child, due to child abuse, are ever sentenced to jail for what they did to those kids. In many cases, the parent, losing custody of the child is considered the punishment. Also, nothing stops those parents and having more kids and abusing those kids. My bio mom had two other children, and managed to abuse them for 17 years before she was caught. Guess, she learned how to hide it better from the last time.
I grew up on eggplant parmesan (eggplant lasagna) But this recipe was so different from how my mom makes it. When my mom makes it, she removes the skin from the eggplant. Then after she slices it (and dries it), she dips it in egg, and adds seasoned breadcrumbs to it. Only then does she deep fry it.

This especially crosses my mind when I see fem boys with a female bone structure. FYI if you compare male and female skeletons, they are actually different. The hips are different and the rib cage is different. Yet, these uke characters that aren’t just fem, but hermaphrodite types- with female bodies, male genitalia, and a flat chest, just kinda make me go (⊙…⊙ )
So many people up till now, in the comments, saying how our MC shouldn’t forgive Ido. That the MC should keep Ido suffering longer. Me here, like- Dude, people? Ido raped him. He did not murder him. He did not torture him after the rape. It was a singular rape event. He did not give him to his brother. The brother lied about that. The blow job was also consensual. MC wasn’t forced.
The MC committed suicide days after the rape, while being left alone; not tortured. He wasn’t murdered. No one killed him. The MC chose to run away from his problems, take his own life, and kill their innocent baby. Ido didn’t apologize to the MC back then, because the bond told him how afraid the MC was of him. So he couldn’t do anything because he didn’t want to further torment the MC.
Now, am I condoning rape right now? No. I would never condone it. It’s an act of evil. However, the dude committed suicide due to regret. And I feel like y’all forget that. Rape is not murder. Rape does not justify a punishment equal in cost, to the price of a human life. Taking his own life, as punishment for raping the MC, and the depression it caused, means, that Ido already paid for his crimes before the second life even began.
Let’s not pretend that Ido killed the MC. Let’s also not pretend that the MC was innocent just cause he had a shitty childhood. The MC was a corporate spy who ruined years worth of work for an entire company. In doing so betrayed Ido. Probably cost some innocent people their jobs too. Losing your job can ruin someone’s life. The MC never showed much remorse for what he did. He instead, wallowed in self pity. He acted like the victim of that situation. Poor him, boo-hoo he might go to jail- but the selfish prick STILL kept quiet and hid what he’d done until it blew up and fucked him over.
The MC fucked up his own life. His punishment (rape) was too extreme, but the net cost owed to him could never justify Ido needing to - not only kill himself, but spend his entire next life being punished by our MC. Y’all are nuts!
The white haired bad guy feels Disney-ish. I dislike the classic Disney-type villains who are evil just because the story creator needed someone to be evil.

- Later in the series the baby girl grows her first tooth (ends up in the ER for bleeding gums and a fever) (babies get their first tooth between the ages 4 to 7 months)
- A few chapters later, our mc harvests scallions and lettuce from the field he plowed before (scallions take 50 to 60 days to grow from seed)
- Afterwards a harvest festival is held. It’s probably Hansik, which occurs in April. Chapter 50 occurs soon after. We find out from the ML that chapter 50 is right after the harvest festival. The ML questions if it’s normal for rain to fall that much in early summer. (No idea why the translator chose the Roman holiday Saturnalia as the festival’s name. That’s the December holiday for worshiping Saturn the Roman god of harvest [Saturn= Zeus’s father Kronos in Greek].)
- Since winter hasn’t happened in this series yet, we can assume ch 1 occurs in early spring. How did I arrive at that? We first determine how much time our mc has spent in that town since his arrival. It took 60+ days to grow the scallions, including the extra time needed to clean up trash/weed/till the field. Just subtract that amount of time from the date of the harvest festival. If the harvest festival was Hansik (which occurs in April), then 60+ days prior would leave us in early February.
- ML’s dad appears over many chapters following ch 50. Ch 50 takes place in early summer (As stated by the characters. Summer starts in June.)
The baby should therefore be close to 8 months old when the dad went back to the US.
Isn’t this chapter the scene that the mind reading esper saw in the ml’s memories back then? Is the harbor monster somehow related to a time swap? Is this why our ml was obsessed with our mc, but silent about it?
Shonen ai vs yaoi should just be the difference between a romance story a romance story with sex scenes, right? So why is this lacking in romance so much? It’s more like shonen with a momentary confession scene (that goes nowhere for the remaining story) and a bit of Bromance towards the end… i’m disappointed in the lacking shonen ai. Where is the ai?
