Leaving the mansion was Charlottes one goal keeping her sane (not even seems like the mansion blocking her mental from collapsing) and now that it’s been granted temporarily, nothing scares her more than potentially having to go back. People who have been happy know how much further the fall back into misery is.

To some of y’all saying she should have found a way to fight back in those 12 lives, she did fight back by killing herself. Remember that she usually goes back a year later where she’s already been found out as the saintess (aka probably already imprisoned). Her spirit also probably broke after the first couple lives which is completely understandable and that was the only solution she found. Each life probably became a race to kill herself before they fully restricted her.
Yeah! But she could probably only wait for the moment they put her in that magical tool, aka she had to suffer a long while before then. And doing that for multiple lives, yikes. She got lucky that the grand Duke visited around that time too, otherwise, there would’ve been an unlikely chance of her escaping or even running away. (One, orphans under the temple basically belong to the temple now and can’t leave. And two, by the time she turns back, they already know about her powers and would definitely never let her go. That’s also why this timeline is different. They let her go easily cause they didn’t understand her actual importance.)
