I don’t think it’s passive but she just doesn’t have the energy to care enough, while her friends care. Remember Dan is a character that hates attracting attention too, so she’s ignoring it not because she’s scared but she has other things she values more. While her friends don’t mind being the center of attention for their beliefs. It’s hard to explain but Dan’s passiveness may seem irritating but if you analyze it, it’s not that bad. Standing up to people can be seen as brave and active, sure, but also knowing what situations just waste your time and are pointless to get involved in is another type of strength that’s harder to develop.
