I agree with you. He's a good friend who genuinely noticed that Andrew got a bit distressed or maybe jealous is the right term when he saw Luke with the girl laughing together and since he (Luke's friend) knew those two will have an intimate moment, he does not want for Andrew to see it too coz it would stir negative inhibitions to himself.
My only problem at first is that how he delivers it to Andrew. He should have been straight forward that maybe it would put him off if he sees Luke kissing someone else but eventually I totally get it coz they are not that close enough for him to be frank or be honest with him.
