I'm just guessing now and just my thoughts. ngl i have the feeling that ML never was a bad guy. like he initially probably always been a good person. but as we can see till now he's probably have some sorts of trauma (poor baby crying while he's asleep TT) as well which might have led him to the route of killing people or doing shady stuff. so like many other stories he prolly has some fucked up childhood or smth. now i shall let this story just marinate
