There's a hell of a big age difference but hey! Luard knew that Kai was his soulmate early on. And tried his best to protect him after Kai was discarded by his own family like trash.
I understand where Kai's coming from. Becoming mates with the clan head is a big responsibility and him being shielded by Luard from the outside world probably made him lose his self esteem and feel as though he's just excess baggage. But I'm just so happy with the development! I've been waiting years for them to have a baby. And I'm so happy that they have a new heir to the clan.
