He didn’t abuse his daughter. Besides that, I find it very disgusting how you all who are insulting and mocking him are brushing away the fact he may have trauma from being raped, AS A CHILD. It’s very disgusting. Anyways, something as severe as that would obviously be stated in the beginning where MC was calling him “trash” for rejecting the original stepmother.

And I read even more spoilers, turns out I’m right.

Ik he didn't abuse his daughter, but he didn't stop his wife from abusing her either, maybe he thought the wife was doing it for his attention so he acted like he didn't know, but having a reason doesn't justify your answer, just like how someone kills a person they hated, they may have a reason but that doesn't justify their crimes

And if you're talking about his past, it's not that he may be traumatized, he IS traumatized, but it's not the child's fault, they didn't ask to be born, he is an adult now so he should know that, and if he also was abused when he was a minor, doesn't that mean he should protect her even more? Like, when you know someone is going through the same pain and trauma you went through, normally, you'd try to help them out so they don't get trauma, PTSD and trust issues like you did, even if you can't help and fix it, you should at least try to cheer them up and tell them that everything is gonna be ok and it'll be over soon.
And i just assumed he neglected the child because of the signs she has shown, she was scared of him or at least shy when she bumped into him, and he didn't help her out, the most basic thing he could've done, ik you can't judge a book by it's cover, but this is the conclusion i got from the limited amount of info i got

Except it looks like you didn't read all (at least) of the spoilers. Because it appears you missed the part where the spoilers obviously suggest he clearly thinks that treating his daughter with love WOULD be abusive. Meaning, on the other hand, he has no idea that neglect IS abusive.

And again we have no idea if he did stop the stepmother from abusing the daughter. I find it highly unlikely that he wouldn't have. After all he is not going out of his way to hurt her physically, himself, for a reason. So why would he actually tolerate that from someone else? In any case, if that does turn out to be the case, I will probably hate him again myself.

(No, none of what I said above should be surprising about me because) I have only ever not sympathized with characters who just have traumatic backstories but which has nothing to do with their current behavior.

Reminds me of the male lead of Lady to queen, like sure, his backstory was one of the saddest, but like, you know the concubine is in the wrong, you can't just defend her just because she was close to you, and he's not even in love with her, he was at first but not anymore, the more reason he should've stopped her, he knew she tried to kill the queen but didn't stop her crimes, only defended her, ik he's going through character development and is improving rn but i can't forgive those actions, sure, you don't HAVE to be a good husband and be all romantic but at least be a fair king, or a fair human being
I've 'ever dated before, but if I had a partner and they were in the wrong, i wouldn't defend them, even of it means breaking up.
