I think its because its obvious that he's not going out of his way to create this situation. He's doing the best he can just to cope with circumstances that he cannot escape or control, and consent is very doubtful on his part. Sure, he sleeps with Allen, but its well established that given the current situation he very much would rather not. This is a rare occurrence in many other stories that tackled the reverse in this plotline. Usually the "homewrecker" is like Trastha, who goes out of her way to disrupt the dynamic of an established relationship because of personal greed. I honestly can't think of a single instance of the situation in reverse that mirrors the particular dynamic of this story, in which both consorts to the same man are equally victims of inescapable circumstances.
