I may not know much, but South Korea is ranked 10th in the countries with the highest suicide rates. Other than that, I haven't done any research for the underlying reasons why. But I hope this will give you a glimpse of the possible viewpoints of mental health.
Another thing I suspect is that a lot of Asians don't really treat mental health with much respect. This comes from myself who is Asian and have been faced with prejudice by Asian family members. They view mental health as a negative affair. I've been told that I'm overreacting or that my parents or grandparents have faced worse hardships than feeling a little "sad". That said, I don't have the authority to state this is what all Asians believe. I just know that amongst my friend group who are Asian, many of them face the same discrimination from their family when it comes with mental health.
I can also confirm that in China Mental Health Issues are still very much a taboo and still not illuminated enough.
In Taiwan there is the ongoing effort to improve Mental Health Care but it is still not as good as in Germany.

My family can't handle any mental illnesses at all - They say you are just being weak and foolish - but fortunately the German Social System can provide you the help you need. It took almost over a decade to realize that I needed therapy.
