I was surprised when they brought her in on a lovely carriage while leaving her in rags..

You expected some bunch of men to put her in a dress? And even know how to??? I think the brother would have killed them for that. And i dont even think the girl even know how to wear a pretty gown in the first place

So you don't think they could have given the child:
a) a nicer piece of clothing that she already clothes herself with. (she is a slave, I doubt someone else clothed her.) She would know how to change in clothes that are worn the same. In fact she would be quite dependable considering her age.
b) covered her with a cloak. Last minute, but better than being visible in a rag.

In fact, if they can call a fancy carriage out of the palace despite the documentation it requires, I'm pretty sure they can call a maid over to dress her.

(there is the curse, but at the same time she has since been dressed within the palace. So that's probably fine)

Because of the curse, there was no female working before she came thats the thing. so no maid would be possible cuz they dont work for them yet. Ido bro ibbelieve clothes back then were quite extravagant that you need people to help you put your clothes on. But idk how it is in this story's culture.

If they cover her with a cloak she might think they want her hidden then being shown that the princess has came. Who knows ┑(￣Д ￣)┍

It would be surprising if there apparently were maids to change her in the evening without the story making a point out of it.
And I'm sure there would have been plenty of unsophisticated clothes they could have used. Even (clean) commoner clothes would be much nicer than what she was wearing.

And I'm not saying the cloak/cape or whatever else would be used to hide her. I'm sure it could be used to both keep her warm and cover the clothes (not her head).

In the novel, she rejects him here and the Emperor is all relieved and stuff but eventually she says yes to Snake. The Emperor is all depressed and stuff now but sees how happy she is planning for her wedding and stuff. Her brothers come back hearing the news and ask the Emp to not allow it and turns out that snake has a son with a servant that he was planning on giving Pol's title to without her permission. So the three men devise a way to kill the doctor.

Emp decides to be the one to tell her and takes her on a trip where she overhears his plan and makes the doctor cut off his manhood while in front of his son.
