Maybe you haven't heard of it but this is common on Asia, and is not taking advantage of someone. Its normal usually for someone to treat their friends and work friends once they get their first paycheck, or in this case their first BIG paycheck. Infact, his work colleagues were sweet enough to take into account that even though he earns a good amount now, that he needs it for his family so they only asked for ice cream and not the usual dinner and expensive beers. Its common practice and most people do it, its not like its everyday its only 1x (⌒▽⌒)
