He's not stupid, him acting like this is because the ML abused him mentally and sexually over months, on top of that he isolated him from his friends and threw him into that toxic environment. The MC knows that he can't trust the father, but at the same time that bond was forced and it was used against him a lot, most often when ML was annoyed or didn't want to talk. So he can't be blamed for getting the snip. Also it's the MLs fault that he didn't even try to place at least one person (in form of a bodyguard or anything else) around the MC, as a friend or at least a person he could trust and talk to. Especially when he knew that his father would sooner or later try to do something and that he himself wouldn't be around.
