Yea so the love interests are usually just used as the mc love interest with no depth and is most of the time seen as one-sided. So all accomplishments the love interest had accomplished are diminished to being the 'damsel in distress'.
Because most of the time romance tends to be unnecessary. Like a story could have okay without romance but for some reason just because he was saved once by MC they suddenly became mad in love.
Romance would have been okay if there is a step-by-step build up rather than a scenario 'girl in danger - MC saves the day - girl decides he's the one'. Just because MC suddenly became cool doesn't mean all the girls should suddenly fall in love with him. Most romance as sub-plots tends to be superficial without proper process of falling in love.

For me, I hate when the FL is cringey or didn't really connect with MC, or she just suddenly fall in love after getting saved.
I've read an action manhwa that I actually hope for some romance, the FL is actually pretty strong and doesn't clingy and the build up pretty good. But suddenly the author just burned those bridges in one chapter after getting some hate comment from reader.
And there's some manhwa that ended up in harem and actually works.
And there's some that didn't really need romance, and some that the MC need some "therapy" before they can be in a relationship.
All depends on how the author BROUGHT that romance into the story.
n.b. For some returnee manhwa, I really hate if the daughter of MC's friend or collague treats MC like love interest. It just.. no. No. No f-ing No.
There's also a trope I hate when MC minding his own business and some overconfident girl thinks every man must fall for her meets MC, get ignored, then bam! 'i'll make this guy fall for me bullshit'.Such FLs makes me think they're a sl*t or something.
Some 3rd rate authors' works I've read have good storyline but had to drop since they had to add some harem or make MC a simp like describing female characters 'sexy body' or 'sniffing a 'sweet scent' when a female character get close or whispers to MC for a fantasy-action or any other genre that could have worked without it. Now I've developed a habit of checking every novels' ending after reading a few chapters to see if there are more than one FL before deciding to continue.

Yes! I remember recently that I've read a some decent start, funny with some cliche set up. But, suddenly he have a female knight (pretty cute one, for the sake of fan service) and they're dressed like some 3rd rate adventurer. I mean, they're freaking ROYAL GUARD.
Honestly speaking sometimes introducing romance is overbearing. It drains the plot because we all ( well I) started reading this for the action, when romance gets thrown in the mix it’s like the whole genre change and it’s just mostly circus on how to develop the love interest. It’s actually annoying sometimes because the Mc could be smart and overpowering but once romance comes in it’s like they loose all rationality.. I might just be a hater thou who knows …. Sorry for the brain stroke with this lack of punctuation lol

Right like some return + revenge action-type stories where MC full of poison and suddenly some ditzy-girl drags MC from his revenge then MC thinks she's pretty and softens.
It's not that I hate character development where MC mellow down but I don't like MCs who deviates too much from their original poisonous personality just because an innocent pretty girl is persistent for his affection who fell for his cool appearance. Too superficial, such scenarios could also be taken by precious friends and family but it has to be a random girl with only looks and no merit has to change MC. Many stories are ruined because of romantic subplots making MCs a simp.
Sangwoo I’m completely on your side. It’s your first time experiencing things. If the guy at the bar wasn’t such a b$tch it might’ve actually not gone bad
All you romance haters, do you actually have a reason for the hate or are you just not getting any. Real question
