The thing that’s getting me is what she the relationship or connection between the main character and the weird guy who’s acting like his lover with the reddish hair?

which part do you need help understanding? in the beginning that was in the present time and the school days were a flashback to how they all met, the black haired kid had a messd up childhood and got in with the wrong crown and he took a liking to the blonde haired MC and the orange haired guy was already his boyfriend because he asked him out in middle school or something, they were hiding their relationship bc the blonde haired kid is self conscious about being gay and the mom was divorced and was a single mom raising the blonde haired kid, she doesn’t approve of the black haired kid bc he’s a delinquent but the blonde haired kid falls for him a little more esch time and wants out from the controlling orange haired guy and his mom finds out about the black and blondes relationship and threatens to kill herself if it happens again and it did happen again and now shes dead and the black haired kid told blondie that he was playing with him so he’d give up on him and move on (but as we know from the first chapter hes always loved him) and the blonde kid moved away to new zealand bc he blames himself for the accident, he became a famous writer and the orange haired guy became a police officer(prosecutor) and he has devoted his life to catching that black haired kid and putting him in jail (is that good enough)

I don’t think mom has homophobia she is fine with red haired guys so she might just hate black haired guy.
