Tbh if I was MC I would be more angry with the villagers than Guwon. Like downright disgusted. They all act like good people but then they do shit like that (and they’re a bunch of hypocrites because we literally saw the girl steal too??? ) Guwon is scary because he got a few screw loose, but he’s just the executor. He’s also very honest and always abide by the (fucked up) rules to a T, which make him easily readable at least.
They prob all started out like the mc but got conditioned to be complacent. The MC said everyone looks blank so they’re def alr detached from this reality. There’s something else going on

They lack empathy and morality bc of how much they want to survive. This happens especially in a apocalyptic world (not saying that its an excuse nor if its good). This is just my take but cant say much bc the story just started and the villagers/Gu Won is susssyyyy

if you skip the first few chapters (especially chap 3) then you should be fine cause he gets better real quick

i LOVE major kwak. he’s obnoxious in the beginning and tbh idk why he was portrayed to be such a fucking loser at first because it completely goes against his whole character morals. slight spoiler, in the novel, during some of the first spicier scenes he lwk does nothing but make sure dr seok (mc) reassures him that he’s consenting to things and wants to get more intimate with him. it’s so sweet and major kwak becomes such a pillar of solace and peace for dr seok. ugh love him so much it’s insane

Oh I read it it too. I like the MC and the plo! The ML….. well he sorta fit in the bastard category but he’s tolerable X’D (at least I don’t dislike him as much as some others but I’m waiting for the webtoon to catch up on some of the novel plot to give my final judgement on him)
Honestly ? I hope Hayato died of old age, having a failed marriage and a miserable life crying every day over his lover’s death and being eaten by guilt. That’s what he deserves. And that girl that blackmailed him into marrying also deserve to be stuck in an unhappy unloving relationship.
And yeah, that's the point he was going into a loveless marriage and wanting the love of his life. Hayato probably died young, given his appearance. He knows he's a coward (I understand the time period and honoring family tradition but he should have talked to Touma) and his regrets basically the kick start his soul reincarnating.
In tradition, if I looked correctly: Regrets and unresolved emotional issues from past lives are seen as karmic attachments that can continue to influence a person's present life and future rebirths. These attachments can create negative patterns and hinder progress on the path of spiritual development.
