Okay love a competent side character with his own idealism and morality and etc etc. But also... i think those 200 years really impacted him a bit makes me wonder whether he truly believes in slavery and all the shits he's done if he hasn't been willingly stuck there for 200 years alone. Because i know if gongja was there with him during those 200 years, pretty sure gongja would have straighten him up
I don't mind possessive MLs. They're a popular trope for a reason. What i don't like is the combination of this ML + this FL. FL is set to have a character development where she actively fights gender stereotypes and has power as a lady (not a mere accessory to any man). But ML, instead of supporting her, has been in the way of this development. Grounded her + read her letters + not allowing her to develop her art career when he himself witnessed her knowledge firsthand. Sure he could have protected FL from the OG FL but he could also try to arrange a plan to support FL on his own. FL doesn't have to sacrifice her dream just to protect herself from harm.
It was disappointing for me because i also like the beginning -> middle-ish part of the story. But now that FL is married... Her autonomy got robbed :/ And you know what, if the story really intended the plot to go this way, i still would prefer them not trying to romanticize this lmao. At least let FL be aware of the cage she's in and think up of better solutions. Aksndoskso i'll just wait and see how this story is gonna be before i drop.
AGREE!!! Seeing him slowly limiting her freedom is getting on my nerves, not to mention his harsh words branded as concerns. SO WHAT?? isn't it because she's like this that you two got married? Now you're condemning how she does things?
I like how he is because, unlike most stories, and to half-quote you, ML seems to me to be "set to have a character development" where he learns to trust those he loves and not force his will on them under the guise of protection. Like, I prefer a flawed ML that evolves alongside the main character instead of a basic supporting character that has already reached his final form.
But who knows, I might be wrong and he doesn't change by the end and all we're left is possessive ml that likes to keep spare keys to all the rooms in the house.
