He says "its a misunderstanding" as a manipulation technique, nothing more. He used mc as a scape goat because mc in his eyes is less than him who is going to be a idol. The bullies caught them going to an orphanage and heejae pushed the bullying towards mc. He probably feels a twisted sense of guilt but he still doesn't want to change and own up to everything and gives a condescending apology to mc and then victim blames and guilt trips him and doesn't want to understand the mc's feelings. Also in the mc's flashbacks, heejae who also bullied him, heejae doesn't want to admit that and keeps denying it bc he doesn't see himself as a villain/bully and wants to justify himself by using dishonest excuses.
