My reason to thinking that is when he was questioning how did Shuli change so much he had a “flash back” and thought maybe she was saved by god too. So because of that he might think that’s gods way of telling him that she is the destined one/ also gods chosen one. And because of that he will develop a admiration for her.
(Maybe I’m over analyzing things but I do think there is a possibility. Maybe he won’t LIKE her but grow feelings towards her whether it be a obsession or actual love.)
