I don't agree with LiHuan's dad saying that "If you want to be acknowledged you have to put effort in it." No, you chose to have a child, it's your job as a parent to love them unconditionally no matter who or what they are. The child isn't supposed to earn your validation, that should be a given. You're the people that's supposed to be on their side in this world.
I understand that it's hard for the older generation to be more accepting but that doesn't mean that we have to do all the work for you to understand. You should play the bigger role and put more effort to it than us.

Tell that to the ppl from old generations... I know it shouldn't be like this but when from the beginning you think that being gay is sick and not normal there's no way that you'll just accept your kid and say "I'll support you, tell me more". It'd probably be "you are lost, sick, come to your senses" as a kind of protection. They don't know it's normal, old generations tend to rely on tradition and they care a lot about opinion so actually it is our job to guide them if we want to have good relationships with them and still be ourselves. I think what the dad said is completely right and honest
