Exactly, I don't think is because of gender, well, it has something to do but the main issue is that they are ''family''. If you watched ''Devil beside you'' they were a girl and a boy that fell in love but their parents got married and they had to keep their relationship secret because they were step-siblings. And it also happened with the couple of ''Love or hate'' They love each other but their parents got married too and they became brothers. The bottom line, in Korea it's a big deal to become step-family...
