I think its more likely he got close to her in the previous life for political reasons. Perhaps to try and over throw his brother. He's got an antagonist feel to him.
If anything, he seemed to disable it so I don't understand this conclusion. Lenne actually seemed to enable it more than Michael could have. I agree that Michael probably didn't have the purest of intentions when getting close to her though.
