i dont think the friend stole hana from nao. considering that the friend would've felt guilty about it and not talk w/ ryuuta so casually after breaking the news.
riichi prob met hana on a patrol or something and was asked to not say anything to nao, he probably has a soft spot for nao and hana and women in general and thus didnt wanna hurt nao hurt knowing nao is still kinda hung up on her.
