I didn't read the novel but, the thing that made me hate him the most is that regarding the maid Emily. She tried feeding her spoiled food and instead of punishing her he accuses Penelope for causing a trouble. Also, the punishment is only washing clothes and salary cut for three months.. it was really unfair.
