asking in chapter 50 the family dinner how does he have so many uncles and aunts didn't China have a long-standing one-child policy plus with that in mind you would think they would be more open-minded about gay couples especially with so many not having a negative religious system.
The one child policy started around 1980. Before that, they were allowed to have two children. Also, i think both sides of the family were at the dinner.
