Yes, but also no.
Yuki is a colossal bitch about her relationship with Zero and Zero follows her around like a puppy. All the independence that he developed in the original is lost. Yes they do get together. Fall in love though? No. You're meant to assume that the love they had from the original was enough and the rest is just Yuki mumbling over loyalty and virtue for hundreds of years.

The story is: Kaname comes back to life and we get to see what happened while he was gone. The Yuki/Zero part of this is truly awful. But you do get a kid out of it. There's a lot of 'pairing up the spares', where all the characters with maybe two exceptions get paired up with the nearest member of the opposite sex.

In more recent issues we've also had a focus on Ai and Ren (Kaname and Zero's daughters respectively) and it's introduced Yuri (the genre). From this point forward it's likely to focus heavily on their lives up to this point. Yuki and Zero's story seems to have passed.

Yeah it really pissed me off as you can probably tell. Zero deserved a truly happy life and I honestly think finding someone who could share his devotion instead of drain it would have been best for his character. Zero and Yuki's relationship destroyed almost all the culture/structure/lore in the universe, rolled his character development backwards to the point where he's not even a proper character anymore.

They try really, really hard to indicate that she loves Zero. But they fail miserably. The love we see from her is more possession. Not even obsession. Someone else might play with her toy and she doesn't want them to. It's her toy. She may have forgotten about her toy for a while but she remembers it now and has decided to keep it.

Even if you somehow manage to think she genuinely loves Zero (personally I dont' think Yuki loved anyone. I think she has a princess complex), she never goes all-in. After stringing him along for centuries, she comes to the conclusion that the only way she can go about a relationship with Zero is if she gives her heart to Kaname. Literally.

Personally, I didn't need her to pick one or the other. I'm a KaZe shipper. I was never going to get the ship I wanted. But I did need her to meet Zero's devotion with equal fervour. Zero deserved much, much better than her after a life of pain. He had been ready to move on. If they were going to hood up after everything, Yuki had to be the one fighting and she really had to actually fight. Instead, she snapped her fingers and he came running, leaving behind indications that he had someone who cared deeply, maybe even loved him selflessly.

I'm only here because I hate loose ends and unfortunately I started reading this and now have to stay until it stops.

True. But if they have to be there...make them good characters :'(

Same! I actually started in slash fandom (male/male fanfiction). There were so few female characters that had a good complexity to them that I got irritated with het and went to slash. Got into yaoi after watching Death Note and Kuroshitsuji. I didn't even know it was a thing until I made it into anime and manga.

The weird thing is that these characters are often written by women, and also talented writers who are already making complex characters. They have to know how to do this right.

Oh well. We always have BL =D
