There were speculations of Edward II being romantically involved w a son of the king's knight, Piers Gaviston. He would give him gifts and spend time with but the king found it sus and kicked him out of England. It wasn't until Edward II married the Isabella (a daughter of the king of france) and crowned prince that he brought him back. He was granted a title and land so the nobles were jealous of his privilege and power gained due to closeness to the king. They banded together and corner Gaveston to kill him :/
