Not completely accurate just based on my memory
The first time niannian suggested the divorce the mother of gu immediately stops him and niannian was threatened by the mother (his fathers company)
The a few chapters after that niannian was kidnapped and beat up by gu yanshengs bitch
and came back full of blood in his head and feet
He immediately yelled "i want a divorce" or so but the mother and gu yansheng tried to stop him reason because
(Gu thinks that its just niannians plan to get his mothers pity)
