god when yumi and hayashida takes it, my heart aches so badly because it goes all downhill from there. yumi focusing on the positive became the brunt of all the pent up anger hayashida had from his abuse. just one big cycle of pain. all those happy moments they had were tainted. i simultaneously feel bad for yumi and hayashida. for ppl struggling to forgive hayashida: u don’t have to. it’s more about understanding his actions and seeing if yumi forgives him and he repents for his actions. you don’t have to use his abuse to justify his actions, only to understand his downfall further. abused people often abuse other people. it’s unfortunately realistic and it’s bittersweet, but im happy that in the end both yumi and hayashida found peace and love separately.

would be lying if i said i didn’t shed some tears…
im so happy yumi found healthy love with mayaama. even in the spin-off when we learn that yumi’s abusive partner was being abused at work (why he turned abusive after they graduated high school) and yumi forgives him, im happy the author didn’t make get back together. toxic relationships don’t need to be resolved by getting back together; they can heal away from each other and start a new chapter of their lives. yumi’s partner ending the cycle of abuse himself was rare and im grateful for that because yumi would’ve stayed and he knew that. abuse victims will often stick thru all the abuse hoping to get the “good times” when the abuse wasn’t happening. nostalgia is a bitch. the author did a good job writing a nuanced, complex story of an abused abuser and his victim’s journey of healing and love after trauma.

this author consistently delivers the perfect package, beautiful art + great sex scenes + good complex writing, in less than 20 chapters. thank uuu author ily!!

im ngl i was hesitant to read about an abuser falling in love after hurting their past partner. i thought shuuna was gonna do that whole “i can fix him” thing. but shuuna showed him love as hayashida fixed himself. it surprised me. typically in toxic relationships the seme will approach the uke and the uke will forgive him. i like the author didn’t make them “kiss and make up.” yumi forgives hayashida by giving the past happy memories in their photo album. he sees as hayashida as human with flaws and wishes him healing. hayashida admits he was terrible and has to learn to forgive himself, live with the guilt, and let go of the past as yumi did. it’s such amazing character writing!! the author also didn’t just make the seme, hayashida, unredeemable. he’s not this one note character. hayashida lives with his mistakes and regrets, even to point of self-hate. the author makes sure to not write him as this common romanticized toxic but lovable trope. hayashida admits what he did is wrong, let’s go of his previous partner, yumi, and won’t even see him again knowing that yumi will forgive him because he doesn’t believe he should be forgiven. shuuna, hayashidas new partner, opens him to the prospect of love again after believing he didn’t deserve it. it’s a complex story and i love how the author managed to give an abuser genuine character development. hurt people will hurt others. it’s a beautiful story of forgiveness and healing. that ur not defined by ur mistakes but your actions going forward.
