I as well don't think his obsession is that type of toxic obsession. He has an overwhelming respect for Ianna's sword but also an intense hatred towards it because that same sword never allowed Ianna to love anything else, such as himself. He'd never take her sword away from her though because he knows that would break her and that's equivalent to taking away her entire being.
