Think this is a flashback. The beginning of chapter (on classroom door) showed they were in grade 9. Also, Gu Ze was being compliant under his father's "suggestion" (cough*order*cough) which we saw they had a shady relationship previously. Unless there was a time skip, I wouldn't know another explanation for their suddenly talking to each other without the tension.
