Hmm I wouldn't say plain boring,more like easy going with a healthy couple. seeing as it doesn't do the regular dragging out conflict for 60 chapters, and there would be no point to the "rivals" back story.

It was just soft paced, it was a simple plot and didn't get overly dramatic with senseless overreactions. It was pretty natural, tbh.
I prefer stories like this one than the ones that give you eternal unsolved conflicts because the main characters don't talk.
If you weren't able to know the characters with this story, and I believe the problem is in you and you would need to expand your interpretation skill
