I hate how children who are by-products of their parents' infidelity have to suffer such treatment. They should hate the parent and care for the child. But for the benefit of the doubt, maybe their repulse came from them detecting.(unconsciously or consciously) that she was evil
I agree with you 100% but I think the reason the child is hated is cus:
1. The man of the house (atleast back then) was the bread winner so the wife and kids couldn't hate him cus they needed the money
2) the illegitimate child was a constant reminder of what the parent had done
