Well... he did protect her until he couldn't anymore. Because she b!tch slapped her own sister, future crown princess, in her engagement party, in front of everyone. And even so he still managed to sent her into exile instead of the gallows.

Her family didn't mistreat her. She was the one that developed a twisted personality over her low esteem and inferiority complex. Yes she is his daughter. But so is Aileen. And if you don't remember when Mc just got there Sylvia had broken her sisters arm... on her birthday... because she was the center of attention. And even Mc herself admitted Sylvia had it coming... So he should protect Sylvia but not his other daughter that she bullied? They are both his daughters. One bullied and the other the bully that causes trouble. Who you think he would protect?

Don't get me wrong. He did have flaws and made mistakes as a father. And she did confront him about it. That was probably the first time they talked like that. Neither tried to reach for the other and he didn't treat her badly compared tho his other kids. It doesn't seem like he ignored her and pampered the others.

I see many blaming him for neglect and being the cause of her low steem. But that was all others. Even when admonishing her he never thought of her as not being part of his family. Neither him or her siblings hated or mistreated her. She had her issues and thought they did. They only disliked her cuz of her atitudes and I can't really blame them for that.

Honestly I don't even get why she felt she is uglier when she is the spitting image of her father and he is known for being handsome???

Yes sir! Ma'am! Agree about that, and that Sylvia was indeed at fault :(( But I have another take in this. At that point, what Sylvia was going through was mental instability. I read through the first few chapters as well to make sure that this bad trait of Sylvia developed overtime, and was a result of inly her personality but of circumstances. At the first chapter, they kept mentioning how Sylvia was the 'normal' child in the family, then they started to compare Sylvia to the other female child of the duke(?). Instead of easing or attending to the worries of a child who is lacking or guidance and presence of a guardian, Sylvia was lwft alone and was labeled "gloomy".

The duke(i really don't know his rank but anyway) had the capability to stop the people from running of their mouths. Or atleast, make the situation better, especially when people kept whispering words such as "I wouldn't be surprised if she was actually a maid." Mind you, this is set on an era where your prestige is incredibly important.

Although Sylvia was wrong for comitting such acts and perhaps for having an unloveable choice of actions, perhaps if she has the presence of a guardian who was not focused to the children who excluded presence and similarities to the wife, then the issue cpuld have been avoided.

And normally, in my opinion, people find it harded to see the beautiful things they possess rather than the negative and ugly things. With all the merciless talk of the adult, without anyone trying to filter those words, as said in the first chapter, Sylvia scarred her heart endlessly and did not heal.

It is very agonizing to see a villain I agree. Because they have committed horendous acts. But I have always had this perception of mine. In the presence of a mistake, there is no one completely innocent. For example, Sylvia who developed a violent tendency was at fault for letting herself sink into the negativity(though putting it that way is like saying it is the fault of a depressed person as to why he or she is depressed), but at the same time the father was at fault for neglecting her needs as a child(care, affection, guidance, his presence, protection for verbal abuse, etc.), the siblings are also at fault for not approaching Sylvia during the times she needed company when they were in the same environment(they were one of the first few persons who could have noticed the situation being tge siblings who wrre compared to), so are the people who are slandering her status, and more.

But well... we all have different takes on which caused what, who did which, and so. Though Sylvia was villainous before she died(the og sylvia) does not make everyone else 100% innocent ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

Yes I do agree with you. They certainly didn't say it when the duke was near. Maybe it wasn't even intended for her ho hear since they were talking between themselves and not to her. Adults tend to think kids don't understand or hear what they say. But yes they were partially neglectful towards her in not noticing or rather reaching out to her. It seems to me she developed the habit of doing wrong things (partially to get attention, part on anger) and locking herself up in hopes the duke would go looking for her. Which obviously didn't happen.

That's why I agree with you and think things are more complex than simply blaming her family.

I somehow understand now that the reason why she's not saying I love you back is because she still feels uneasy of having a mutual love that has a probability of growing into a one sided love after Regan(?) falls out of love. It's not smart, but it's understandable considering that he wasn't exactly the most ideal man to be 'in' love with. ( ̄∇ ̄")

I've read from another webtoon that regret is the most painful thing one can go through(though I don't really believe in it much). So pleaaaase let her family know what she went through before going back to the past and make them feel guilt and regret for not heing able to protect her. I welcome the angst!
