Shit, author’s giving up on keeping ‘Hikaru’ exclusively an incomprehensible eldritch horror, ch 38.3 is like them negotiating with that concept that they philosophically dug into and explored meticulously in the beginning, like likening human’s comprehension of things ‘Hikaru’ likes to that of the understanding of cats enjoying kneading, we can never truly understand it beyond it being an indication of contentment and an activity they enjoy. There could never be an overlap of such deep understanding of sensations between humans and entities such as ‘Hikaru’, ‘Hikaru’ could never understand the concepts of love and death like humans do. But ch 38.3 shows the author moving on from it into monsters and humans can both change, everyone can change. I guess it makes sense, if we stuck with ‘Hikaru’ forever being an incomprehensible eldritch horror (which I found refreshing) then there is no more character development for it. Or maybe they could have done something with the profound loneliness they gave him, something other than Yoshiki being the only one where ‘Hikaru’ doesn’t feel so lonely. *sigh* Let’s see if they do anything new with the humanizing the monster trope.
I like the way his character arc is progressing but I’d have to agree with you. It’s not necessarily groundbreaking work. I am really excited to see Yoshiki’s character progression though. I think it would be pretty neat if they parallel Hikaru’s positive character arc with a negative one for Yoshiki. Like, what if he continues abandoning his morals because he wants to stay in support of Hikaru, but in the end he ends up becoming more of a monster and unrecognizable to the actual entity itself. That would be pretty cool ╥﹏╥
I am pleased that the authors now realise that the women crave smut too but damn, the stories and characters are all so badly written
Yesss, smut books and novels, bodice rippers, historical romance, dark romance, etc etc, I’m mainly talking about smutty manga, there haven’t been a lot until recently and they’re all really bad. As it has been the last couple of years, any work that was spicy was for men (hentai, harem, etc) and they’re all also pretty bad but it was misogynistic slim pickings for the women (why do they think women want to read that shit). Still really bad but more bad options I guess?
Is yuri experiencing a slopocalypse?????
In my opinion, I think all romance genres - straight, BL and GL - are experiencing a slow degradation; most new stories, especially manhwas ngl, are just filled with either the most cliché tropes you can possibly jam into one storyline or are straight-up romanticising disgusting behaviours and acts that definitely shouldn't be, ie. incestuous couples, illegal age-gaps, non-consensual acts, etc. etc.
Art went full classic yaoi
