I think Hugo isn’t really his name and he was actually the abandoned twin brother not the heir Hiu. Because the first instance is when she calls him Hiu and there’s a glimmering in his eyes and he prefers to be called that. Second in his flashbacks his attitude/demeanor is more like the kid who is dressed less formally which would be more on tune of the twin the duke didn’t care for. And I think his brother the actually heir killed his mother and father out of love for his brother (there might me another reason) and then himself. So he actually wasn’t supposed to be the heir but everyone thinks he is because they were twins they could have easily switched places. This is just a theory since I haven’t read the novel but this story is one for the first where it actually makes me want to.
From what I’ve read. I’m pretty sure that the current Duke, Hugo, is actually the twin brother Hiu. Because of what happened in the past, the twin brother Hugo had kill himself in the name of “love” and that it was all for Hiu. As for the twin who killed the parents, it was Hiu because he was obviously, the only twin that was left to fulfill the throne. He killed them out of hate and disgust because the twin brother he had said to protect, died due because of him (is what he thinks). He mentioned that he couldn’t escape from the blood that runs through his veins, and with this, what I got from it was that he might’ve wanted to end his life but couldn’t do it because Hugo had already sacrificed himself and is living through constant guilt he has made up. This was long and I’m sorry that I replied but I agreed with your theory and wanted to talk about it too (: Sorry once more ;-;

He is Hiu, the abandoned kid, but later the fucking Duke want to switch him with the young master Hugo because he is incompetent, and so the Duke threatened would harm Hugo if Hiu didn't go along with his whim, so Hiu abandoned his life and become Hugo, he take lesson as Hugo and trying real hard to become the perfect noble, but without him knowing the Duke also threatened Hugo, if he want to keep his brother safe, he should abandoned everything, Hugo realized that his father toying with them both, and as long as he is alive, the Duke would use him to control Hiu, so He killed the Duke and Duchess and then himself.
