But the elder is not harmful...just manipulative. I like this kind of people...as long as they don't scheming to kill oyhers.
Sure he abandon his pals, but they probably ignore him like MC. So I guess his fair.....
He's old. AND DYING. How the hell is it reasonable to sacrifice youths? What's REASONABLE is training a successor to replace himself so that if and when he dies their someone who's young and can still functionally last longer, faster and stronger than the rest.
If you kill off the youth your suck with a bunch of old people who will die soon after.... I think that logic is RETARDED. In every sense of the word.
But to each their own. ٩( ᐖ )و
You ain’t a special snowflake bro, everyone who was in there and died also had dreams, ambitions and confidence. This is literally a world meant to starve, kill or mentally torture you. The old man didn’t technically kill his friends, he decided the situation was hopeless and fled cause of pure nerves. The lighting dude is also special, yet they still broke down when food was out of their reach after they thought the mc died. If your in the situation, you have to be prepared to starve for days on end, kill monsters that tower meters above you, lose everything you have now, and more.

I actually read a lot of this type of genre that I feel like I can puke.
They have awesome beginning but always never end (coz Clift hanging). Start w betrayal, get transport back, met THE REAL FMC and start harem collector. It's recycle over and over. The harem dependent on ML to survive.
