Damn y’all are gonna hate me for saying this but Penelope lowkey groomed Eckles. He was in such a vulnerable position, having lost his kingdom, and being sold as a slave. I really liked Penelope until I saw how she treated Eckles and it rlly rubbed me the wrong way…She bought him, controlled him, but didn’t properly help him adjust and eventually forgets about him. She tried to seduce him when he was her slave, so there’s an obvious power dynamic and exploited him, only to then abandon him. She should’ve just left him alone to begin with, this is so sad.

It’s why it will never work with Eclise. Penelope’s focus is survival and finishing the game, she only thought of the people around her as characters instead of people, Eclise included. And honestly, can’t blame her. She’s suffered so much both in real life and as Penelope that she’s only thinking about getting through. She’s acting around everyone to get points for her own sake. Her situation and relationships to the characters is all doomed and toxic from the start, especially with Eclise.

I’m not exactly sure how old they both are, they might be around the same age but what I was rlly getting at is how Eckles was in a particularly vulnerable position that made it easier for someone to manipulate, exploit and take advantage of him.
Ik grooming is usually used in the context of minors but it can also apply to adults in vulnerable positions like Eckles who was in an emotionally fragile state, dealing with mental health challenges, and emotionally dependent on Penelope. The master-slave dynamic also added a power imbalance and made him even more susceptible to manipulation.

I think the "close to her" comment was also due to guilt since he kind of wrote her tragedy. So he doesn't dare to become close to her because he first of all fixed it into stone that her brother will die and will also kill him later on. Also if someone feels so guild ridden isn't it a nice feeling to know that someone will always be on your side no matter what you tell them. I am not sure if she will tell him later on but I feel like saying this will be easier for her to do so

And honestly about Yeon-ha, not really. I’d prefer to be able to get it off my chest and then they say what they have to say to me after. If they tell me they’ll be on my side no matter what before I even tell them what it’s all about, that doesn’t help to ease my anxiety cuz then you get a feeling like they’ll change their mind after hearing what you actually have to say.
