The author and translator managed to balance what is essentially a situation without consent without either party being purposefully evil about it. Like, it's clear neither of them realise why this is happening and are trying to deal with their feelings and desires themselves because they care about each other and want to preserve the emotional connection they do have, and although at first it is (extremely) painful for the receiving person, eventually they come to terms with their feelings from that experience, and actually enjoy it.
