we've all been in a place where someone you care about lies in a way similar to that, and sometimes it doesn't cost us just lovers or opportunities, but actually it costs us our own health instead.
Actually it is also my dream to become a manga/webtoon artist, and create art stories in general, I can relate to him because "art is not a real job" this actually made me stop practicing art for over 4 years, now I'm slowly going back to practicing it no matter what everyone says.
