the way this manga was getting interesting and they had to put a rapey scene goodBYE
they mean it's the laziest, most yaoi cliche plot point - hence why theres "no need" for it to happen. the truth is, you can have a redemption arc (or whatever the hell we're calling what's going on with scammer character) done pretty easily by, you know, not shoving in a sexual assault to save the mc from. literally, just have the mc actually confronting the dude like he went there to do, putting scammer on the spot, could've been sufficient enough to see some form of meaningful change lol. it has a "point" in the plot sure, but it's such a convoluted, too-coincidental addition that it cheapens the writing/relationship development.
i do want to clarify that "too coincidental" isn't the best wording - should've gone for "too convenient" lmao. i also don't really appreciate the author's depiction of this particular bar (which seems to be some bizarre mix of normal gay bar+leather/kink bar and.....idk a weird rape dungeon where ppl can just stupidly assault others in broad view of staff/other ppl????) which i think is kinda ~problematique~ and lazy too. not to say ppl can't be assaulted/raped at bars and in front of others but....it's still just convenient action after convenient action all wrapped around associating everyday LGBTQ+ hangout spots with immorality/inherent criminality.
I'm gonna have to agree with the commenter above and say that this place was probably acting as a cover for an illegal brothel and not just some bar, especially considering that it's associated with two scammers.
Just saying that Japan does do things like this, with "innocent places" acting as covers for a secret/illegal red light location.
ehh, making it a brothel moonlighting as a bar also doesn't really escape the convenience of "need drama/reconciliation? add random rape" - in fact it makes it much worse, because staff would be on top of it, handling it much much more strategically, forcing the random gangrape crew to take mc out of the ""playroom" and outside the establishment, exactly to avoid getting reported
certainly, brothels are often veiled as other types of businesses, but that also usually entails the business model looking different from the outside as well: finding loopholes in anti-prostitution law means, for instance, keeping all actual sex off-site usually (if its being run smartly, anyways). this chapter executes it very much as "moral crusader's understanding of a sex establishment/lgbt space as the wild wild west where everything depraved is happening at once" which is......lmao.
yeahhh, it's like.....i'm sorry to say it but it's very much like...an innocent person's idea of what the world of sex work, and/or hookup bars looks like lmao. i tried to be generous in describing it as a bar (esp bc for it to be a brothel in its strictest sense it would need regular sex workers as employees....who are the sex workers there exactly? the dancers on the stage? the masked waitresses? random people in the crowd?) soooo yeah. this is all to say, i'm a little disappointed because the story has started falling into dime-a-dozen cliche yaoi land from its slightly more interesting premise. at least kyuugou's art is good i guess....
ppl on here being r### apologists ew
Let's not throw inflammatory accusations on each other, shall we? Let's just enjoy the story, & have civil discussions. We all just want a peaceful place to read, and maybe trade some thoughts & discuss what we think. I hope everybody here can respect each other's opinion & not go into petty quarrels over a fictional story. Please.
