Lol at first she worried the FL would turn out to be a sheltered weakling, but now the options are either her new daughter-in-law's a total idiot, or way too smart for her naive son. It's obvious he's a shut-in sheltered nerd who knows little about people and about emotional stuff beyond a basic intelectual understanding, and the FL is obviously the contrary, so tbh if I was his mom I'd be scared for my son too, that he'd end up liking the smart girl more than the girl will ever be able to reciprocate (I mean, I'm pretty sure the dad's seen right through them, that it's all a ruse, and that he's still approving the marriage bc he noticed his son is unwittingly already smitten, but that would also be the exact same reason why his mom would be scared, fearing it'll stay one-sided).
