Keep in mind the ages of the main characters being younger than highschool students so it's safe to assume that's the intended audience too. it works to be "on the nose" for themes that might not be obvious to younger audiences. I know when I was that age I had no idea labels even existed. I would have been grateful to read something like this as a teenager.
