unsure about the sex work aspect but some high schoolers (even middle schoolers) tend to recklessly get into relationships/situationships with older counterparts (sometimes groomers, sometimes clueless older kids) if they feel emotionally neglected at home. some trivialize it by calling it daddy issues but for those kids, any kind of love and care they receive from others feels right. most of the time, they do regret it in the future tho

It’s because it serves no purpose to the plot. It doesn’t utilise it to deepen anything, it’s just used in passing and it doesn’t tie into anything. There’s no build up to it and no after effects.

But it does. It shows the honor student isn’t as happy or put together he appears on the outside. He’s going through a lot of loneliness and he’s dealing with it in a self destructive way.

Nah it just says that since he doesnt get the attention and love he needs and wants from his own home, he recklessly gets it from old men. Its actually pretty realistic because, sometimes real teenagers do this to feel "loved". That's why some people get groomed.

It IS the plot. lol. The whooole plot of the 2nd couple is not knowing who the honor student really is and finding out he’s got a lot more issues than he realized. And wanting to protect him. Without it they have nothing thing them together.

uryu meets with these older men bc he wants attention, but that could be included in the story in so many other ways that doesn’t include sexual favors with older men. he could’ve just been a lonely boy who plays at the arcade everyday bc he doesn’t want to go home, and that would’ve had the same effect on haru, discovering the hidden side to this honor student. if haru is only interested in uryu bc he wants to save him from selling himself, then that’s not love, it’s a savior complex.

let’s remember that an adult author is writing this, and can consciously choose how to portray their characters. the author chose to make this child character sell blowjobs to adult men to build interest in his character. the author also adds to this premise and includes a scene where uryu is kidnapped and assaulted by one of these adult customers, all to result in a white knight scene with haru coming to save him. for the purpose of uryu and haru’s romance story, uryu did not need to sell himself or be assaulted to progress the plot and reveal the characters’ feelings for each other. it’s just a gross addition.

Yeah, the author didn’t need to write it that way. They didn’t need to write the main couple as gay. They didn’t need to write aaaanything about the story. They chose to write the story the way they did. It doesn’t make it unnecessary plot because it IS the plot. You’re welcome to find it gross.

It’s not supposed to be happy, fluffy, or sexy. It’s meant to be gross so what you’re feeling is normal. Saying the author shouldn’t write darker stories because of X reasons is silly though. People can write fictional stories and include what they want. We don’t have to read them if we don’t like them.

Fully agree with you, I've had enough of people insulting and policing me on what I include in my story (especially when I warned it has dark themes), they have the freedom to not like it and click off. At one point, I just wanted to off some characters just to be petty, but that would ruin my plan.

that's literally all there is to it, inferiority and jealousy. she also mentions that erin is lovely, kind, rich, noble, and on top of it, born with the talent to become a swordmaster. she's the opposite. that's all there is to it, and such shallow things can make someone totally horriboe

It's because the stepmom is prejudiced thinking that just because someone is born as an innate talented genius, that means they won't have to work hard in order to get to the top (like she herself had to do in order to get there, and only to achieve the remarkable results of a "normal" level warrior, at best, and not those of a "once-in-a-lifetime sword master's), so she thinks the mc is unfairly privileged. But that is only her prejudice (being a born genius doesn't instantly mean that person will never ever work hard or that they will never have to strive hard to achieve their aspirations... moreover, sometimes talent comes with its own hardships)
