I dont think yangyang meant to say that qiu is the only one at fault, and neither is the author trying to defend pan, because they obviously show how rude he's being. He even noticed it himself after all. But it's not wrong to say that qiu doesn't know how to date. He used to be a player and is really awkward most of the time, although i personally find it very endearing. I think the author is trying to show how both of them don't know how to deal with their relationship but lets hope they overcome those problems hehe
