I too thought of theory of a "past lover" but I think the story is too deep and dark and complicated to be about a past lover, and I think the theory about sg father forcing him to sleep with old nobels fit perfectly with the story bc as far as I know there's seems to be a massacre in the yoon family that was ordered by the emperor but sg family (father and brother) survived maybe cause his father used him to protect the family or some shit , as for his father getting angry bc of the painting that sg sent him(him sleeping with men) maybe he just wanted to get back at his father (did it for revenge) to try and trash his father image.
