Saying "I love you" to some of us is a very big deal, these are people who don't go around expressing those sort of feelings to just anyone because those three words are precious and say so much of what the heart is feeling, but if they are not completely true or you're not entirely convinced of what you're feeling it's better not to say them. Human beings are very complex and sometimes we don't understand our own feelings which is why sometimes it takes time for people to realize "oh so I'm in love with this person". Of course I get it's frustrating especially after she confessed in that manner, but I get his intention. Personally I would have said nothing and asked her to allow me to settle my feelings
First thing I said after I read this was " I like this reply." Honestly ive been there were i wasnt sure about how i feel for someone and i would rather hurt them now by saying im not sure than lie to them and have them find out later that their feelings arent reciprocated after all. Once you know real love its much more easy to tell the difference.
