I looked up on Google and didn't understand sentinel/guide. Please enlighten my dumb brain.
It's an idea from a Television show call the Sentinel that aired in the mid 90's. I watched it then but don't remember that much of it. Basically the main character Jim develops hyperactive senses...example...much better hearing, sight etc. compared to normal persons. He meets an Anthropologist name Blair who tells Jim that he is a Sentinel and helps him deal with it. Blair is the "guide" (the guide idea is basically used in the fannon and fanfiction verse.) and is barely in the show at all. Blair guides Jim when he zones out with his senses because sometimes it can be too much for him helping him ground himself.
In fanfiction it's sometimes paired with dom/sub stuff and the guide is often times seen as more feminine, on the bottom etc.
