...wasted! I need someone to make fancomi and insert them between every scene I think there should be a love scene. It doesn't have to be graphic. Taseful. I just NEED to see more kissing and touching and fondling. Please! Someone! I'm going a bit cray cray here!

ShelyGirl April 28, 2015 5:21 am

What did that look mean from Lori, when Ren asked if it was just the way Saena worried about her daughter? That it wasn't true, right? Lori gave Ren a "no, she's just a bitch" look, right?

Omg, and I'm going to say sweet potatoes and chestnuts, now! Lol, sounded like a swearing cover, ha!

I think Asami might b a spy. Is there anyone else who thinks that? Like, an in-so-deep kinda spy who acts like a mediator with all his clubs and gathers info and makes deals to blend in. SEE MY THEORY IN REPLY!!!

    Hanne April 21, 2015 8:23 pm

What actions did he perform to make you think this - just curious and open to arguments here, not criticising your impression.
I am not sure how you get the impression that he is a spy. All of Asami's motivations seem to come from the fact that he is a crime lord (not Yakuza though) and he has politicians and police and such in his pocket, which is pretty standard for someone who is a mafia-type boss.

I agree, Asami isn't low key enough to be a spy. I mean, everybody including the Chinese mafia, the Russian Mafia and his associates found out about his relationship with Akhito

Ok, I just re-read the whole story thus far (for the umpteenth time) in the last few days and this is what lead me to that theory:

What do we really know about Asami? He's a business man. He owns clubs and hotels where it's known that yakuza and gangsters make their deals. But have we ever seen Asami make a drug or arms deal? Not once has there been a scene where he's made a drug deal or exchanged illegal merchandise with anyone. In the very first chapter his character was set up by the crooked detective to Akihito saying that on the outside he looks like a legit business man and there is a rumor that he is "an unstoppable drug dealer involved in smuggling." Akihito infers that Asami was in charge of the drug scandal but, that is only by association. Akihito has never once caught Asami red handed with any sort of illicit merchandise.

Who ever said a spy had to be altruistic? Spies kill, they get rid of the competition just like a real crime lord would, they try to break up crime families and syndicates (e.g. Asami's involvement with getting Fei Long to take over Beishe). All Asami has ever owned up to Akihito is that he lives in a dangerous world. Asami's warned Akihito time and time again to keep out of his business, yet he's never said what that business actually is.

What draws Asami to Akihito in the first place is that he acts like a little spy, hiding in the shadows, getting close to danger, jumping off buildings, accepting that getting beaten and raped is all part of the job... Maybe he sees something in Akihito, something that he's lost in his many years of being so deep into his persona as a 'bad guy.' Why Akihito? Why him? Time and time again the people around Asami have questioned his fascination with Akihito. Asami saves this kid for no other apparent reason other than he feels like it. Time and time again Asami plays around with Akihito to get him to skedaddle and Akihito never loses his will, something that enraptures Asami to the point that he has to see for himself if his time with Fei Long has caused him to lose his strength and stubbornness. Akihito is one of the most honest and forthright people Asami has come across since God knows when and he's clinging to that scrap of humanity he has left in him by not being able to let Akihito go.

Now there's this DA guy that knows an awful amount about Asami that he's not divulging. One of Asami's subordinates steals his shipment and suddenly this guy shows up and talks to Asami about how the higher ups are afraid his stolen shipment will be exported to other countries. Why the hell is this guy talking to Asami about this?! Why is it so critical to get this stolen shipment back and for Asami to know about this? Wouldn't this be the perfect way to catch Asami with stolen goods? But no, he's directly talking to Asami and involving him to retrieve his own stolen cargo! Why?! Because he's involved with the government, people! His stolen shipment is essentially the governments and he has to get it back! The stolen shipment will be out there without any monitoring from the government. If that isn't the biggest red flag, I don't know what is!

Well, now we have to figure out who's shooting up Asami's place. Has Asami now become a liability to the government and he has to be taken care of? I guess we shall find out.

    cram April 23, 2015 4:10 am

Asami is a Fixer, a mediator of sorts betwn the Yakuza grps. He acts as broker of deals. He owns bus. and clubs. It does say in the manga he may deal in guns. No drugs, no sex clubs. He keeps his own crew. He is a Fixer that the Yakuza leave alone.

Oh! I never have this idea! The way you explain it is good but I also like the fact that Asami is a (100%) crime lord, so we will see it at the end of the story (and I will remember your theory ^^)

    misekatte April 24, 2015 11:56 pm

A spy would not normally be placed so high (ie President) of a huge corporation (Asami owns numerous nightclubs and and businesses) A spy would have a an assignment further down the power structure, and they would also not be embedded for that long. From what I have seen, Asami has been in business a long time, so I sort of doubt that he could be a spy, I mean what would he do? Report on his own business interests or jeopardize all that he built up? Asami acts far more like a man who dips his fingers into both legal and illegal dealings to strengthen is own business interests - plus a government agency would not spend that much money to put a spy in such a visible position.

I think how characters are named is important to their personality. You can most likely look up any of your favorite character's kanji and see how it coincides with their character.

Let's look at the meaning of Asami Ryūichi's name, 麻見 隆一:

麻 (Asa) means- Thread, yarn, or cloth made from the hemp fiber.
    見 (mi) means- to see.

Asami's last name could mean, "sees how the threads are woven together".

隆 (Ryū) means- noble, prosperous. (This kanji could also be pronounced as "taka", same definition as the kanji in Takaba, see below)
    一 (ichi) means- one

It's interesting to me that Sensei chose the kanji for noble, prosperous, rather than 龍 (ryuu) "dragon", which I think a more befitting warlord title. She also didn't use the name Ryouichi (良一, 亮一) From 良 (ryou) "good" or 亮 (ryou) "clear" combined with 一 (ichi) "one". As I don't necessarily believe Asami is a character who could be defined as "one who is good" or "one who is clear".

Takaba Akihito (高羽 秋仁) and the kanji meaning is:

高 (Taka) means maximum, the limit; or tall, high, expensive
羽 (ba) means wing, feather, counter for birds or rabbits
    秋 (Aki) means autumn
仁 (hito) means humanity, virtue, benevolence, charity, man, kernel

I'm not entirely sure why Sensei used the kanji for autumn in Akihito and not the kanji for "bright",明. There is a Japanese expression I found, 暗送秋波 (an sou aki nami), which means: giving an amorous sidelong look; casting an amorous glance (at); playing up to someone behind the scenes. It's an interesting expression which sort of fits Akihito, if indeed Asami is who I think he is.

Ok. Lol. It seems more logical for me that it was a joke because Asami as a lifeguard was totally out of character in my opinion (even for a high school job), but someone mentioned recently The finder character book I had never noticed before and, with your message here, I thought I missed something else again.^^
And I'd love to read more about the past of Akihito and Asami (Asami in particular because we know nothing about him). I'd like to know exactly why Akihito was arrested by the police several times a few years ago, why he decided to lead a "more legal" life. And I'd like to know how Asami rose at this "top place" concerning his career but also the influence he has in different areas such as with the leaders in politics. Or how his childhood was? What his parents were doing in their work (if they were a part of the underworld too or not), if they are still alive? etc...

Anyway, thank you for your reply ;)

Well he did save Takaba from drowning in very lifeguard kind of way. But those kinds of skills probably just come from his line of work (i.e the more ways you know how to save a life, the better).

I understood that Kurose was in love with Siro, that was a given. But to say that his motives were purely for self satisfying means and him wanting Shiro to only rely on him is a whole nother level. I never thought of Kurose's motives as twisted. Knowing that now adds on a new depth to the relationship, one that is fascinating and frightening to witness. I love this manga so much.

ShelyGirl April 1, 2015 1:19 pm

He just wants Blood and nothing else. He wants to run away; not at all in his character. Wah!

These chapters are so disjointed.

ShelyGirl March 26, 2015 12:31 am

Is really important to the congruency of the story, cuz I was like, "who the hell is this brother, all of the sudden?"

    mdragon September 15, 2015 4:30 am

Well volume 1 goes from chapter 2 to chapter 4. I remember reading a chapter with the brother the first time I read this a long while back. I think that's the missing chapter 3.
