Read this years ago and before near the end i was rooting for mamura (i almost always have a second lead syndrome) but when they actually got together, i felt disappointed, its like the author lead us on with shishio and then suddenly did a 180 the last minute, realized that all along it was the teacher I was rooting for but still mamura deserved to have his happiness. Yes, my feelings were complicated and confusing for me too.
